25 Live Chat Greeting Messages That Get Replies
A good greeting invites one specific question. Here are 25 you can copy, grouped by the page they belong on — plus after-hours notes and invitations.
A live chat greeting is the first line visitors read when they open the chat. The best ones do one job: invite a specific question the visitor already has. "Hi, how can I help?" gets ignored; "Not sure which size fits? Ask us" gets answered.
Below are 25 greetings you can copy, grouped by the page they belong on. Change the details to match your business.
What makes a greeting work
- Name a question. Visitors don't know what they're allowed to ask. Tell them.
- Match the page. A pricing page and a blog post need different greetings.
- Keep it to one line. It shows in a small window, often on a phone.
- Promise only what's true. Don't say "We reply instantly" if you're a team of two.
- Sound like a person. Write the way you'd talk to a customer in your shop.

- Hi! Not sure where to start? Tell us what you need and we'll suggest something.

After hours (22–23)
These go in the after-hours note, shown with the message form when nobody is online.
- We're offline right now. Leave a message and we'll reply by email within one working day.
- Our team is away until tomorrow morning. Leave your question and email, and we'll get back to you first thing.
In SealReply, the message form also shows when you're back online, so your note doesn't need to say the time.
Invitations (24–25)
An invitation is a short line that pops up by the chat button after a visitor has spent some time on a page, or scrolled down it. Keep it even shorter than a greeting.
- (On a pricing page, after 30 seconds) Questions about plans? Ask us.
- (On a long product page, after scrolling 70%) Still deciding? We can help you choose.
Where to put them in SealReply
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| The greeting for every page | Sites → your site → Texts → Greeting |
| A greeting for certain pages | Page rules → Greetings by page, matched by page address, such as /products/ |
| The after-hours note | Texts → After-hours note |
| Invitations | Page rules → Invitations, after some seconds or once scrolled |
Every text can be written per language; a language left empty uses your site's default language. A page greeting only changes the text: it doesn't send a message or open the chat by itself.
Test them
Change one greeting at a time, then look at Reports a few weeks later: the pages where chats start tell you which greetings bring questions. Keep the ones that do, and rewrite the rest.
